Perhaps you were reprimanded for not having clear goals, or not knowing yourself; perhaps others tried to force their expectations upon you. In any case, there is a wound here that caused you, at an early age, to come to a firm conviction about who you are and what you are going to do. The problem is that you also tend, with this aspect, to be resistant to change as if you must hold your present self-image at any cost.

Chiron does not allow complacency, or ruts, nor does it allow a person to remain resistant to change. What happens is that, until you have begun to heal, you will periodically experience new aspects of yourself from areas that you thought you knew completely.

If you remain entrenched in your self-image, these new aspects tend either to become repressed (and then work on subconscious levels) or warped to fit in with the self-image that already exists. Once either of these things occurs the process can snowball as more insights are likewise repressed or warped. You can see the danger of continuing this process for long periods of time..

And if you refuse to grow, refuse to explore new worlds that open up before you, holding on tightly to a very limited definition of purpose, the personal world will become less fulfilling, and realistic.

The healing begins when you accept that you have much more potential than you ever allowed yourself to admit, and when you admit that any self-image you have is only temporary, subject to change as self-learning reveals more of who you are, and what you can become.

This aspect does give you a unique gift, a sense of wonder about life. One lesson this aspect taught you, early in life, is that no one is perfect that even our greatest heroes are human beings with faults. What is more, you are very good at making others see themselves as being very human as well. If you are responding to the wound of Chiron, however, you are quite capable of bringing others down by knowing their weaknesses. In any communication-related field you can come across as a fellow human being, and thus reach others because they are easily accepted. In addition, this aspect does give originality to the thinking, and the realization that we should take no idea, no process for granted. It was probably someone with this aspect who came up with the saying, ‘If you assume, you make an ASS of U and Me.’.

Chiron trine Mars

As you were growing up, the unexpected seemed to happen to you in areas of life that you thought you knew, had taken for granted. These unexpected events test your Mars. There may be tests of your assertiveness, or tests of your stamina, or tests of your ability to attack a problem, or even tests of your ability to take the first step in some new situation. With Chiron in trine to any astrological concept, unexpected lessons arise because humans usually feel comfortable with areas 120° away from a planet, we feel we can express ourselves freely there, and that we can take the area for granted that it is never going to pose a challenge. But Chiron reacts differently here than any other type of trine. There can be a deep wound because you were too resistant to change, or too closed off on trying something new, or did not know how to deal with changes in areas you took for granted and you were criticized or judged for this by others.

Doors may have opened up in areas in where you had no idea there were any doors. Since Chiron in trine teaches one not to take anything for granted, the lesson, once learned, gives you the ability to look into places others ignore, to try methods others would not expect to be valid (too commonplace, or too ordinary, or simply not ‘worthy’ of consideration). (When you come up with a new procedure, others might find themselves saying, “Now why didn’t I think of that, it was right in front of me all the time?”).

But until you learn to be open to change, willing to keep an open mind to the unexpected, you may find yourself feeling very insecure, and when these unexpected doors are open you may react with fear, or even by becoming defensive. If you have not learned to be open, there can be a tendency to try to erect barriers in the areas influenced by Chiron, to try to shield Mars from the unexpected. As you heal, this aspect gives you the ability to always see glimpses of innovations you can make, improvements you can add, even when you are not looking for them. In other words, once you learn the lesson that nothing is absolute, no area is free from change, you become a seeker of the very types of changes you once feared. On a positive level, therefore, you are an innovator, seemingly able to open new doors with little effort. On a positive level you are an individual who will try something new, if it is important to you, even if you know it might bring ridicule. (Of course you would prefer acceptance, but you would much rather achieve success, or discover the truth, than worry about the opinions of others.)

On a negative level there is a danger that you might attach yourself to any guru or teacher who promises real fulfilment for you, who tells you they will show you your true purpose in life. You need to learn to constantly question rather than following a promise from an unreliable source.

One thing that seems extremely important to everyone with this aspect is that you discover the truth about self, and about life, then once you have found it, to reveal it to others if possible.

Chiron square Neptune

The wound from this aspect stems from not being able to pay attention to your dreams. The environment you grew up in forced you to repress, or discount your dreams, or place them on the back burner. Perhaps you were even laughed at for your wild imagination.

To heal this wound, you need to allow yourself to believe in your dreams again, to get in touch with your imagination. The wound may have gone so deep that it gave you a fear of the unknown, fear of what you cannot see, hear, taste, smell or touch. You must find a way to give yourself permission to open up to what lies beyond the senses, what lies outside the realm of apparent reality. Otherwise, you may find yourself with a tendency to go overboard into the real world then to submerge yourself into material things, in order not to have to deal with the unknown.

Healing from this wound, the most common expression is the tendency to have some dream that is totally you, some image of the ideal self that is the way you want to be and then to believe totally that you can be this. The magic of believing in yourself.

This aspect does not denote success or failure at achieving this dream, only the very strong belief that this is what you could be. There is also, if the aspect is strongly emphasized, a desire to overcome any obstacle that interferes with your understanding of life or of the universe. Even if you have not begun to heal from the wound, there is a curiosity deep within that never completely is broken. If you have Chiron conjunct Pluto you are part of a small, select group of people, born either in 1941, or during 1999–2000. These two bodies have a connection; Joyce Mason called them ‘The Comet Brothers’ because they share many qualities of a comet nucleus, waiting to transform into a full-fledged comet.

Pluto’s urge to bring about total transformation is focused through Chiron, giving you a highly specific area where you feel transformation must occur. The natal House where this conjunction falls is where you will concentrate this powerful urge for transmutation.

This aspect is a powerful push on you to evolve, to become more, and to grow. A square makes you easily dissatisfied with the ordinary circumstances of life. Careers where it is important to remain secure, learning is where you will shine, where you can do something to help others heal in some way, physically, or emotionally, mentally, spiritually, or a career where you open minds, encouraging others to want to learn. So you could have a career as a healer, or you could be that teacher people remember because you made them want to explore the world after they left your class.
