Some feel that the South Node represents karmic experiences, knowledge learned in previous lives. But even if you do not believe in reincarnation, the South Node should be a source of strength, but not a place to reside.

Those who have Chiron conjunct South Node have difficult lessons to learn. There have been some serious, painful past experiences in your life. Chiron here initially can result in the blame game. Problems you have as an adult are ascribed to a strange or terrible childhood, and there is a reluctance to try working them out. When you are under stress, the tendency is to fall back on this excuse, or begin to act in an erratic manner, allowing Chiron’s maverick nature to come out in its most negative expression. On one level or another, as you heal, you can become a healer yourself. Carl Jung said that only someone who has been wounded can heal others, and if you have a lot of strength you can draw upon to do just that.

This aspect shows that you are the type who will go off the beaten path to do what you need to do. You are able to look into things that are not ordinarily the province of your profession, or your vocation (although not completely alien, either).

This stems from some wound that made you feel you did not go far enough when trying to attack a problem, or did not go in the right direction. Someone in your developing years shaped within you a feeling that you had to do more, go further, try something different, because you just weren’t doing it right! You may end up going to extremes because there is a tendency to continue further down the path, diverging further away from standard acceptable practices. Thus, one of the lessons of this aspect is to know how far to go; to know when it is profitable to go off on a sideline, and when to stop. The danger here is that you can get trapped on this tangent, and not only be unable to return, but not see any necessity for returning. Chiron square Neptune

The wound from this aspect stems from not being able to pay attention to your dreams. The environment you grew up in forced you to repress, or discount your dreams, or place them on the back burner. Perhaps you were even laughed at for your wild imagination.

To heal this wound, you need to allow yourself to believe in your dreams again, to get in touch with your imagination. The wound may have gone so deep that it gave you a fear of the unknown, fear of what you cannot see, hear, taste, smell or touch. You must find a way to give yourself permission to open up to what lies beyond the senses, what lies outside the realm of apparent reality. Otherwise, you may find yourself with a tendency to go overboard into the real world then to submerge yourself into material things, in order not to have to deal with the unknown.

Healing from this wound, the most common expression is the tendency to have some dream that is totally you, some image of the ideal self that is the way you want to be and then to believe totally that you can be this. The magic of believing in yourself.

This aspect does not denote success or failure at achieving this dream, only the very strong belief that this is what you could be. There is also, if the aspect is strongly emphasized, a desire to overcome any obstacle that interferes with your understanding of life or of the universe. Even if you have not begun to heal from the wound, there is a curiosity deep within that never completely is broken.
