Perhaps you were reprimanded for not having clear goals, or not knowing yourself; perhaps others tried to force their expectations upon you. In any case, there is a wound here that caused you, at an early age, to come to a firm conviction about who you are and what you are going to do. Chiron does not allow complacency, or ruts, nor does it allow a person to remain resistant to change. What happens is that, until you have begun to heal, you will periodically experience new aspects of yourself from areas that you thought you knew completely.

If you remain entrenched in your self-image, these new aspects tend either to become repressed (and then work on subconscious levels) or warped to fit in with the self-image that already exists. With Chiron opposition Mars, you have a deep wound that makes you feel the need to fight. How it manifests, what battles you choose depends first of all on how much you have been able to heal. In any case, there are some very deep wounds here, and a lot of pain and pent up anger (or even rage).

One way you can tell that you are experiencing pent up anger from the old wound is if someone ‘touches your buttons’, and the anger you feel seems way out of proportion to what the situation should warrant. You need to work on this anger, find ways to release it (sports, for example, or chopping wood, or other physical activity, or therapy), as difficult as it may seem, learn to forgive those who hurt you. Some situations warrant fighting, of course, but healing for you is also learning how to choose your battles, and choose when not to fight.

There are major lessons to be learned here about your masculine side (whether you are male or female, you have both an anima and an animus), which hopefully, you have learned a good bit of early in life. One of the major lessons that you must learn is to be adaptable, to try new methods when they come along to experiment. Somehow, you were deeply wounded in a way that made you feel you needed to stick to a particular method of doing things, or at the very least, there is a fear of going in to uncharted waters.

So the lesson is that there are definitely times to go off in new directions, and when you learn this, the healing has begun. Some learn it early in life while others apparently never learn it.

Until the lesson is learned, the following is a common sequence of events: you find some method that works, some plan of action, but then tend to use it continually, getting into a rut (habit). After this goes on for a while, Chiron comes along and throws a wrench into the process, the success formula doesn’t work anymore, or it produces negative results. When this occurs, you may fall down, and fall hard! Even when you don’t actually fall, you are definitely thrown off-balance, and must reorient yourself. At this point in time, depending on how you have evolved past the wound, you will usually choose one of three alternatives.

1. Make an adjustment, and then go back to some routine method of doing things. If this approach is chosen you will once again have to go through the same process in the future, and again each time you refuse to learn. Eventually, this repeated stress can have an influence on the health, producing stress-related ills.

2. Learn part of the lesson. If this is the case, you learn the virtues of trying new methods, new ways of doing things, but not the ‘why’ of the lesson. You might begin to revel in each new method. You may seek out and try to experience every new act that can be found, every new experience and sensation that exists, perhaps even inventing brand new ones. If you continue along this course you will still be confronted with Chiron throwing a wrench into the act, but you will see it as just one more new experience, or as a temporary setback. Continued long enough, there is a danger of going to excess with destructive results.

3. You rise above your past wound, and learn to be adaptable. You learn to try new things, and learn to discriminate, so that you also know when the old methods are still valid. You use new ways of doing things when the time is right. You thus build up a broad repertoire of methods and experiences to draw upon, and will be seen by others as extremely resourceful and multi-talented. Should you turn this great personal energy towards helping others, you will find a knack for coming up with the right solution for each individual problem, and often have uncanny insight into what makes people tick. This is an aspect in effect for many people. It gives the individual a tendency to take for granted that the dreams you dream are ideals that will lead to a whole life, and may not be consciously aware of how important these dreams are to you.

If, in childhood, you were allowed to dream and express the dreams, as an adult you will feel very comfortable exploring matters of alternate realities and ideals which could slowly change the world. On the other hand, if you were told in childhood to stick to the real world, the dreams you take for granted will be just the dreams instilled in you by others. To best understand yourself, you must take time to look at your deepest dreams and decide are they truly your own, or have you just taken the dreams of others and sacrificed your own?

This aspect enables you to sojourn beyond the present world into more spiritual realms to help you heal, and it would be advisable for you to take time on a regular basis for meditation, yoga, or other transcendental activities. In fact, it is necessary, if you are to make the best of living in the day-to-day world, that you have regular times where you get away from it, and so this aspect shows that you need to be sure to allow yourself time alone.

Chiron opposition Pluto

Chiron and Pluto do not reach opposition often, but when they do they often continue that aspect for several years, creating what some call a sub-generation. In the past hundred years, they only were in opposition for one period, but everyone born from March 1961 through February 1966 have this aspect in their chart.

This aspect seems to express itself in one of two ways.

• In some natives it shows up as a great need to overcome some powerful inner hostility stemming from early childhood. This hostility may come from being constantly thwarted by parents, or from being a recipient of hostility from others in the environment. Whatever the cause, there are major lessons to learn about opening up, getting in touch with the inner rage, and then cleansing it once and for all from the system.

• In other persons, rather than anger, the expression is a need to win, to overcome obstacles and to beat any opponent. In both cases, you need to face the root of the hostility, or intensity, in order to bring about the needed healing.

It also gives a deep awareness of suffering, something you can put out of your mind but which never completely leaves you. I once read that we laugh at most jokes because it is a way to deal with the pain and suffering; we laugh because we can identify with the sorrow the object of the joke is experiencing and the laughter is a needed release.

Chiron opposition Pluto people often make excellent storytellers, and tellers of jokes, because of this powerful awareness.

Chiron trine Midheaven

The Midheaven is how you are seen by the public, and is what has often been called the ‘ego ideal’ that is, what role you want to strive to become. This is why it is tied in to career, think of the child who speaks about what he ‘wants to be when he grows up’ and you’ll have a good idea of the Midheaven energy.

Chiron trine this point shows that you have a knack for finding loopholes, ways around the status quo, that you can think outside the box, and use this ability in your career. You can also tune into the weaknesses easily of authorities.

You could work well in a field where you are called upon to do some healing in some way; where you find what is out of kilter and offer suggestions to correct it. It also shows that your career will go through several changes or incarnations in your life, because the image you have for what you want to become will go through many changes throughout your life. Because it is a trine, however, these will almost always be welcome changes as you grow and evolve. Unless you can find a career which allows you to grow and evolve, in which case you may be able to stick with one thing, such careers are difficult to find.

Chiron trine Mercury

One lesson this aspect taught you, early in life, is that no one is perfect that even our greatest heroes are human beings with faults. This aspect enables you to deal with people more as they really are, without any of the comparison of self to others that most people go through neither worshipping another as being a god, nor looking down on another as being inferior.

What is more, you are very good at making others see themselves as being very human as well. If you are responding to the wound of Chiron, however, you are quite capable of bringing others down by knowing their weaknesses. But as you heal from the wound, the ability is transformed, and you are then capable of showing others their own weaknesses if you feel that doing so will better enable them to evolve. By recognizing your own humanity, and that of others, you are much better able to help people work towards becoming more whole.

Of course, not everyone with this aspect becomes a healer. But the ability is there, and can be tapped, with care. There are many avenues of positive expression for this aspect.

Because you truly see no one as inferior, you can work well with people who have emotional or mental problems, or other handicaps. In any communication-related field you can come across as a fellow human being, and thus reach others because they are easily accepted. In addition, this aspect does give originality to the thinking, and the realization that we should take no idea, no process for granted. It was probably someone with this aspect who came up with the saying, ‘If you assume, you make an ASS of U and Me.’.
