Perhaps you were reprimanded for not having clear goals, or not knowing yourself; perhaps others tried to force their expectations upon you. In any case, there is a wound here that caused you, at an early age, to come to a firm conviction about who you are and what you are going to do. The problem is that you also tend, with this aspect, to be resistant to change as if you must hold your present self-image at any cost.

Chiron does not allow complacency, or ruts, nor does it allow a person to remain resistant to change. What happens is that, until you have begun to heal, you will periodically experience new aspects of yourself from areas that you thought you knew completely.

If you remain entrenched in your self-image, these new aspects tend either to become repressed (and then work on subconscious levels) or warped to fit in with the self-image that already exists. Once either of these things occurs the process can snowball as more insights are likewise repressed or warped. You can see the danger of continuing this process for long periods of time..

And if you refuse to grow, refuse to explore new worlds that open up before you, holding on tightly to a very limited definition of purpose, the personal world will become less fulfilling, and realistic.

The healing begins when you accept that you have much more potential than you ever allowed yourself to admit, and when you admit that any self-image you have is only temporary, subject to change as self-learning reveals more of who you are, and what you can become.

This aspect does give you a unique gift, a sense of wonder about life. One lesson this aspect taught you, early in life, is that no one is perfect that even our greatest heroes are human beings with faults. This aspect enables you to deal with people more as they really are, without any of the comparison of self to others that most people go through neither worshipping another as being a god, nor looking down on another as being inferior.

What is more, you are very good at making others see themselves as being very human as well. If you are responding to the wound of Chiron, however, you are quite capable of bringing others down by knowing their weaknesses. This is an aspect in effect for many people. It gives the individual a tendency to take for granted that the dreams you dream are ideals that will lead to a whole life, and may not be consciously aware of how important these dreams are to you.

Another expression of this square is the need for continual self-discovery, and a great deal of curiosity to delve into the unknown. The negative expression is an anxious concern that others are delving too deeply into your personal affairs, interfering, and invading privacy.

Still another manifestation of this aspect is the desire for a world in which every person should have the right to manage his/her own life. Positively, you will go out of your own way to help others do this, striving to secure for each individual the same opportunities. In the negative expression there is a danger of dividing people in to ‘us and them’, and trying to give opportunities to ‘us’ at the expense of ‘them.’

On a positive level, this aspect can give you the strength to triumph against seemingly impossible odds. It makes you a fighter for your principles and you can have very strong principles.

No one, nor anything, is going to stand in your way when you are striving for some goal. On some level you likely perceive life, or at least part of it, as a war between what is, and what should be, and are convinced that what should be is the winning side.

If you have not worked your way through your wounds, however, the negative side can manifest and you can be quite ruthless in your methods, believing, ‘The end justifies the means.’. If other aspects also point in this direction, you can become a truly dangerous foe to anyone who stands in your way. There is a tendency with those who have this aspect to become totally convinced of being right on some issue, and then become closed off from any information that points to the contrary. But, as in all Chiron aspects, if you go too far along this line, drastic events will come along to shake your closed world. The normal reaction is one of two things: Either to pull the walls more tightly around self, and thus begin to see others as enemies, or to recognize that no human being can ever know all the facts on any subject. If the latter path is chosen, then you have the chance to develop a keen eye to search for new information, new facts, new data where others do not go.

One thinks of a trine as being ‘easy’, but Chiron in trine still reflects a lesson that need be learned.
