Safia Elhillo (Arabic: صافية الحلو; born December 16, 1990) is a Sudanese-American poet known for her written and spoken poetry. Elhillo received a BA degree from the Gallatin School at New York University and an MFA in poetry from The New School. Elhillo has performed all around the world. She has won acclaim for her work and has been the recipient of several prestigious poetry awards. Elhillo has shared the stage with notable poets such as Sonia Sanchez and has taught at Split This Rock and Tin House Summer Workshop.

One major lesson you can learn from this aspect is when to compete, when not to! learn how to choose your battles.

This aspect can make you a real fighter, which can be for good or bad. If you see something that you feel needs change, or an obstacle that needs to be overcome, you won’t rest until you’ve ‘won’. This may be a physical fight, but this doesn’t necessarily make you a physical fighter (other aspects in the chart would show that). What this aspect does do is make you appear always ready to take up a banner, always ready to take up a cause.

As you grow, and heal from the wound, any particular cause you are drawn to will be for the betterment of life, or to help others in some way. But if you resist healing, there can develop the feeling you need to fight even for small things, or there can develop a paranoia giving you an ‘us versus them’ attitude. On a positive level, this aspect can give you the strength to triumph against seemingly impossible odds. It makes you a fighter for your principles and you can have very strong principles.

No one, nor anything, is going to stand in your way when you are striving for some goal. On some level you likely perceive life, or at least part of it, as a war between what is, and what should be, and are convinced that what should be is the winning side.

If you have not worked your way through your wounds, however, the negative side can manifest and you can be quite ruthless in your methods, believing, ‘The end justifies the means.’. If other aspects also point in this direction, you can become a truly dangerous foe to anyone who stands in your way. There is a tendency with those who have this aspect to become totally convinced of being right on some issue, and then become closed off from any information that points to the contrary. But, as in all Chiron aspects, if you go too far along this line, drastic events will come along to shake your closed world. But one of the dangers of this aspect is that once you have chosen what you feel is the right approach, it can be nearly impossible for anyone to get you to change your mind.

As you can imagine, this trait can be both positive and negative, depending on the situation. One of the most positive expressions of this aspect is that over a period of time, those who have it impress people with their personal convictions and their ability to remain true to themselves.
